Issue 13 - Friday 6th December 2024

Dear Families,

The elections are in full swing! At Almond Hill, our annual tradition sees children voting for their Prime Minister and government. Year 6 students have the exciting opportunity to form ‘parties’ and campaign for votes from their peers. Each party is tasked with creating pledges at the school, local, national, and international levels, which they aim to fulfil throughout the year. This week, the parties have been actively campaigning and sharing their pledges during assemblies. All students across the school will cast their votes for their favourite party and the winners will be announced next week. Good luck to all participants!

2024 Elections

2024 Elections Year 6 are currently holding their annual election. Children form political parties and generate a manifesto with four pledges. These pledges are focused on improving both school and beyond with fun events, a focus on education and fundraising. The children have presented their ideas and the whole school will have the opportunity to…

Have a good weekend.

Key Messages

Please read the email sent to all parents today regarding the early finish on Thursday 19th December. Thank you.

Year 3 Christmas Play

WOW! What a start to our Christmas events. Year 3 put on a wonderful show over the last few days to their peers and their families and I am really proud of how well they did! A parent requested the option to donate online which has been set up on School Gateway for anyone who would like to donate. This will stay open until Wednesday 11th December. A big thank you to everyone who donated on the night and we really hope you enjoyed the show!  I would also like to thank all the staff involved for the efforts and staying at school two late evenings this week.

Christmas Dinner and Class Parties

I hope children are looking forward to their Christmas dinner and class party days! This will start w/c 9th December with each year group having their own day! Children can wear Christmas jumpers and/or Christmas accessories on their year group’s day if they would like to. Please don’t feel you need to buy anything for this! If you don’t have anything Christmassy at home (or your child doesn’t want to dress up) non uniform or school clothes is absolutely fine! Please do help our cook to prepare for this very popular event by pre ordering your child’s lunch in advance via SchoolGrid.

FOAH Christmas Present Room

Our FOAH present room will open its doors on Tuesday 10th December. Online orders have now closed but cash will be accepted on the day. All gifts cost £2.50 and there is no limit to the number of gifts purchased. A big thank you to FOAH for organising this event.

Year 4 and 5 Carols and Mince Pies

Families of children in Years 4 and 5 are invited to join us for Christmas Carols on the evening of Tuesday 10th December starting at 6.00pm. We will be selling mulled wine and mince pies so please bring along some cash. Some of you may remember we hosted this a few years ago and it was a lovely, festive event enjoyed by everyone. This will take place outside in the quadrant with Mrs Cleaves leading the vocals. As this is outside, there is no need to book a place just turn up, wrap up warm, enjoy a festive treat and sing some carols. A bucket for volunteer donations will be present.  Please note, all children should be accompanied by an adult to this event. Parents can enter the school site via the school drop off zone.

Rocksteady Concert

We are looking forward to welcoming parents to this term’s Rocksteady concert on Wednesday 11th December. The concert will start at 2.15pm and we would ask parents to come into school via the main reception gate to sign in.  Children can have up to 3 guests to come and watch them perform.

Year 6 and Choir Carol Service at St Nicholas Church

Year 6 children and our school choir will go to St Nicholas’ church on Tuesday 17th December for their carol service which is one of our favourite Almond Hill traditions. It is always a lovely service and a real pleasure to be a part of. If you are attending, please remember, space in the church only allows for two parents per child. Please don’t arrive until 1.30pm to allow children to arrive and get organised. We would also ask, to ensure all children are kept safe, that you allow children and staff to leave first and return to school and where they can then be collected from the school in the usual way. They will need to be signed out but may be collected slightly earlier depending on the finish time.  We are expecting the service to last for approximately 1 hour.

Talent Shows

We end the final week with another Almond Hill tradition – our talent shows will take place during the school day on Wednesday 18th December. Teachers will be running auditions for children who want to take part and they will be informed by their class teacher if they have been successful. They may bring special props or chosen outfits for their performance. Children in the upper school will perform in the morning and the lower school in the afternoon.

Clubs

We are starting to think about clubs for the spring term and I am pleased to tell parents, after a successful dance club this term, this will be continuing after Christmas. Please follow the link below if you are interested. We are also looking at offering a cheerleading club before school (run by the same dance company) and will be having a taster session at lunchtime on Wednesday 18th December. Please encourage your children to come along if it is something they would enjoy. If enough people are interested, we will introduce this as a new club in the spring term.

Dogs around school site

Whilst many of us love dogs, there are also many who don’t and may even be scared of them. I understand the convenience of walking the dog to the school dates to drop off/collect your child but please don’t congregate at the school gates to allow those who may be nervous of dogs the chance to come through. Thank you.

Young Carers Club

A huge thank you to Pound Avenue Cars who have very kindly sponsored our young carers club. Our young carers club will take place on the first Tuesday of the month and is supported by Mrs Burgess.

Pop up Pool

We are currently updating records regarding pool sessions and awaiting information regarding progress made. Parents will be informed and certificates given out in due course.

Pre-Loved Uniform Sale

If you have any preloved uniform you’d be willing to donate, please drop these in to school. We would also be really grateful for any coats or shoes that could be passed on to someone else. With Christmas coming, it would also be wonderful if we could start building a collection of Christmas jumpers so if you have any that no longer fit, please consider donating them to school. Thank you.

50p Book Sale
