Taylor Wimpey Improves Road Safety for School Children in Stevenage

As part of its ongoing commitment to working with the local community, Taylor Wimpey North Thames challenged pupils at Almond Hill Junior School in Stevenage to design a road safety sign that could be installed near its Franklin Park development to encourage drivers to slow down.
In support of Road Safety Week 2024, which takes place from 17th to 23rd of November 2024, both the winning designs created by Abigail (year 6) and Isla-Mae (year 6) will take pride of place at the Franklin Park development. Abigail, first place, was awarded a £50 book token and the runner up, Isla-Mae, also received a £25 book token. Taylor Wimpey also donated £250 to the school to say thank you for taking part.
Road Safety Week, which takes place in November every year, is designed to educate children, young people and parents about the dangers on roads and provide steps to help keep children stay safe near roads and help prevent deaths and injuries.
The competition was launched during a school visit where Taylor Wimpey gave the students a presentation on the importance of road safety to help inspire the pupil’s designs.
Emma Fordham, Headteacher at Almond Hill Junior School said: “It was lovely to have a visitor come to the school and deliver such a well prepared assembly to our children about such an important topic. They were so excited about the competition and both our winners can't wait to see their designs in action.”
Rozita Gharavi, Sales Manager for Taylor Wimpey North Thames, said: “National Road Safety Week is a fantastic initiative, and we are proud to have supported Almond Hill Junior School which is located close to our Franklin Park development. We hope that the road safety sign will help to encourage people to slow down in the area and keep the children safe when near roads.”
A big well done to Abigail and Isla-Mae!
