Issue 38 - 19th July 2024

Dear Families,

It was a real pleasure to attend the SSFT awards night last Friday with Mrs Small and to collect our award. 'SSFT Commendation' - this award recognises a school which has embraced every aspect of the SSFT provision throughout the academic year which includes the attendance of events, competitions, festivals, CPD opportunities, projects, workshops and all provision available.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped to increase our participation in wider opportunities in sports this year: from parents dropping off and collecting at a variety of venues, some more far flung than others; the admin team for endless risk assessments and chasing information and consents; teaching assistants and teachers for accompanying children often in their own time and especially Mrs Small whose relentless enthusiasm has kept us going all year!

It was lovely to celebrate with Chloe and the staff from Letchmore who had also won awards. Great to hear Chloe is looking forward to joining us next year and is already a celebrated sportswoman!

We are looking forward to another academic year of sporting events, competitions and encouraging a love for physical exercise.

This is the last newsletter for this year and it would be remiss of me not to once again mention how proud I am of all we have achieved together. We have seen children climb to the ‘Top of the Hill’, compete in a variety of different events, embrace writing days and maths challenges and explore new topics and we have had a series of wonderful school trips, visitors to the school and inspiring fundraising events. I am already looking ahead to see how we can make next year even more engaging!

It is time to wish farewell to our Year 6 families as they embark on their journey to secondary school. I hope you enjoyed your graduations and are looking forward to a relaxing summer before your new beginnings. Keep in touch – we love to hear how our Almond Hill alumni get on! Be proud of yourselves, Year 6 and good luck!

School Games Mark Application - GOLD

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year. The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. With such a large number of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Writing Day

Writing Day I am sure children have told you all about the case of Miya’s missing crate! Our school government put together a wonderful writing event for children in Years 3, 4 and 5 on Tuesday. It had everything – mystery, suspense, evidence (including some questionable ‘CCTV’) and teamwork but most of all, it resulted i…

Upcoming FOAH Events…

A huge thank you to FOAH for all the wonderful events they have put on over the year. Many of the events that take place here wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the committee and their hard work. The Year 6 leavers’ hoodies and yearbooks were kind paid for by the amazing fundraising by FOAH so a big thank you, FOAH!
