Issue 33 - 14th June 2024

Dear Families,

Thank you to everyone who attended our sports days last week – I am so pleased the rain did not make an appearance and we were able to enjoy it. A big thank you also to all the staff involved in the preparation and planning for such a wonderful event – particularly our PE lead, Mrs Small.

Congratulations to all of our children for creating such a wonderful Sports Day on either Thursday or Friday. The whole staff were extremely proud of the passion shown and the teamwork displayed throughout both mornings. The pupils' spirit, as soon as their house song was played, lifted the atmosphere and made for a great event. After having the scores verified by a group of teaching staff, we are pleased to announce BLUE house won both the Y3/Y4 event and the Y5/Y6 event. Many thanks to you all for your support on the day (or both); it makes a huge difference to the children seeing so much teamwork and encouragement on the track.

Our staff (and some children) took lots of photos on both days which we will be delighted to share with parents. However, we have a number of children who do not have permission for their photos to be shared online so we must take the time to check these carefully before they are added to our website. We will publish the photos on our newsletter once they have been checked.

We do hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did and would welcome any feedback on how we can make Sports Day even better next year. We would also love to hear what you liked about the event, so please leave your feedback below.

Key Messages

Therapeutic Thinking – Parent Workshops

Thank you to those parents who attended the sessions. We hope you found them useful. Parents who did come to both sessions were lovely and engaging which is really appreciated. If you are interested in viewing the slides from the presentation, these can be found below.

We understand there may have been some parents who could not join the online meeting and we can only apologise for this. If you have any questions regarding therapeutic thinking, please contact Mrs Burgess.

Online Safety Day – Wednesday 19th June

Parents may remember the wonderful ‘Parenting in the Digital World’ workshop we offered in February. The feedback from the parents who were able to attend was overwhelmingly positive. I too found the session invaluable which is why I am really pleased to tell you that Richard will be visiting our school on Wednesday 19th June to work with the children. He will be delivering 2 sessions (one for the lower school and one for the upper school) on this day.

Year 5 Parent Meeting – Grafham Water Trip - Wednesday 3rd July at 6pm.

Parent view from our parent forum meetings suggest that Year 5 parents would like more information about Grafham before starting Year 6. With this in mind, Miss Simmons will be holding a Grafham information meeting for Year 5 parents on Wednesday 3rd July at 6pm. Here you will have the opportunity to find out more about the trip and ask any questions you may have. Year 5 children are welcome to attend with parents/carers.

To gather an idea on numbers and if you haven't already, please let us know if you will be coming by submitting the form below:

Year 6 Graduation Events

Some parents in Year 6 will have had children who have already come up through the school and moved onto secondary school but for others, this may be your first child who has reached Year 6 at Almond Hill.  We believe it is important to recognise the hard work, achievements and memories that are made in the time children are here which is why we hold ‘graduations’ for all children in Year 6. It is a wonderful opportunity to really celebrate with families and would love for as many parents to attend as possible. Due to space limitations in the hall, we can allow up to 3 guests per child.

The graduation will run from 2pm-4pm on the day so where possible, please arrange alternative collection for younger siblings. We like to keep as much of the event a surprise where we can but can assure you, you won’t want to miss it!

Children will be given 3 tickets to bring home today – please give these to your child’s guests to bring with them. We know that families will want to come but I must stress that we will be up to our maximum capacity for fire regulations so will not be able to allow additional people to attend.

Year 3 Maths Challenge
On Thursday 7th June Ezra, Marcell, Faith and Teddy D took part in the Year 3 Maths challenge. They answered questions including tricky estimation, shapes challenges and multiple calculations. They tried very hard and managed to answer every question. They said that it was difficult (especially trying to agree on an answer quickly) but that they enjoyed the challenge! We are now waiting to see if they made it into the top 20 for the final round. Well done to all of them for the hard work they put into preparing for this over half term and during break times - we appreciate their dedication to maths!

Our Heritage Displays

Our Heritage Displays Each classroom throughout the school has a wonderful, unique board dedicated to the heritage and culture of the children in that class. Some children in Year 5 recently took part in a survey about diversity, heritage and racism. They were asked a variety of questions and below are some of the things they said. The children l…
